Total Time 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons olive oil divided
  • 1 pound lean ground beef (or turkey)
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 1 medium red bell pepper chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic chopped
  • 2 cups all-natural tomato sauce no salt or sugar added
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 ½ teaspoons hot pepper sauce
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

  • Chop the onion, red bell pepper, and garlic cloves.
  • In a large skillet, heat 1 teaspoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until it is no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Once cooked, transfer the beef to a plate and set it aside.
  • In the same skillet, add the remaining teaspoon of olive oil. Add the chopped onion and red bell pepper. Sauté until they are softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the chopped garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Return the cooked ground beef to the skillet with the sautéed vegetables. Stir to combine.
  • Pour in the all-natural tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, hot pepper sauce, and pure maple syrup. Season with sea salt and ground black pepper. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.
  • Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, to allow the flavors to meld together and the sauce to thicken slightly.
  • Taste the mixture and adjust the seasoning if needed. You can add more salt, pepper, hot sauce, or maple syrup according to your taste preferences.

Notes

  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
  • Reheat gently on the stovetop or in the microwave before serving.
