Losing weight can be quite the rollercoaster ride, am I right? Picture this: I’m scrolling through my social media feed, and it seems like everyone’s chanting the same mantra—’ calories in, calories out.’ They make it sound so simple, like a magic formula for weight loss success. But, as I discovered, there’s a lot more to it than just counting calories.
Let me take you back to the not-so-distant past, around March of 2021 when I was on a mission to shed the post-baby weight after having Claire. Now, if you’ve been through the joys of motherhood, you know that shedding those pregnancy pounds isn’t a walk in the park, but I had done it before after having Gretchen and Ralph, so I knew that I could do it.
Armed with what I believed to be all the right strategies—eating healthy, staying active, and even obsessively tracking my portions, calories, and macros—I embarked on my weight loss journey with unwavering determination. Yet, there I was, staring at a scale that seemed to be stuck in place, and frustration was starting to set in.
Can you relate to that feeling? It’s disheartening when you’re giving it your all, but the results just aren’t showing. But, let me tell you, I wasn’t about to throw in the towel. I knew there had to be a solution.
One thing I was sure of was my honesty with myself. Along the way, I’d had moments of temptation, sneaking a bite of my kids’ food or enjoying a treat here and there. Hey, we’re all human, right? But this time around, after Claire’s arrival, I decided to take my tracking game up a notch. I left no room for ambiguity, meticulously logging every morsel that passed my lips. Yet, despite my diligence, the scale remained as unmoving as ever.
That’s when I decided to take a look back at my own weight loss story. I delved deep into my food tracker, sifting through the data like a mad woman. And you won’t believe what I uncovered.
Not all days were created equal in my weight loss journey. Some showed clear signs of progress, while others seemed mired in a plateau. The lesson here is this: tracking isn’t just about accountability; it’s about using that data to help you reach your goal. It’s about revisiting your tracker regularly to identify patterns, decode what’s working, and unveil what’s not.
Now, where does this leave me? Well, I may not be in a hurry to shed the pounds like there’s no tomorrow, and you know what? That’s perfectly fine. Why? Because the scale is trending down, I’m loving life, and I’m enjoying treats without the stress. All thanks to getting my tracking game on point.
The takeaway from my journey is this: tracking your food intake is an important tool to utilize throughout your weight loss journey. It’s not just about calories in and calories out; it’s about understanding your unique body, your habits, and finding that balance that works for you.
So, if you’re on a similar journey, keep tracking, keep analyzing, and always remember, that progress may move at its own pace, but progress is progress. You’ve got this!
