How to Make It Extra Thick & Creamy

The secret to a perfect smoothie bowl is achieving that thick, ice cream-like consistency. Use frozen fruit instead of fresh to prevent a watery texture, and blend with a high-speed blender and tamper for the best results. Keep liquid to a minimum—just a tiny splash if needed—and pause to scrape down the sides for a smooth, creamy finish.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • ¼ cup pomegranate juice
  • Zest and juice of 1 lemon
  • Zest and juice of 1 orange (about ¼ cup)
  • 1 blood orange, tangelo, or mandarin, peeled and segmented
  • 1 cup frozen mango pieces
  • 1 cup frozen raspberries
  • 1 medium cooked or raw red beet, chopped
  • 1 inch piece fresh turmeric or ½ teaspoon ground turmeric
  • Pinch fresh black pepper
  • 1½ inch piece fresh ginger
  • 2 tablespoons hemp hearts or flaxseed
  • 2 scoops unflavored whey protein powder (or plant-based alternative)
